  Sure every IT firm out there has some cookie cutter Microsoft Server Solutions, us included. But they are not the only game in town.




• Open Source Software.
  
  If you have more than 1 server and don't have some Linux in there, you are paying too much. Linux has come of age, and it is Awesome! We have been installing Linux servers for the past few years with a lot of success.




• Where should I use Linux?
  
  Any where you can, Linux makes great, firewalls, mailservers, application servers, you name it. Not to mention there are some great web enabled applications out there that I don't know how some offices live without. Have you seen Vtigercrm?




• Is it really free?
  
  There are exceptions to the rule, but for the most part yes. A Linux solution is going to cost you a fraction of the cost of a Microsoft 2003 Server. Linux typically runs a lot faster, so you should be able to run more applications on less servers.




• So when would I use this service?
  
  Don't get us wrong, Microsoft has its place and if you only have 1 server and money isn't an issue, buy 2003 Server. That being said, if you need a firewall, a mailserver with a virus scanner and spam filter, and a VPN. You are going to love Linux.
